3rd years trip to Mountlucas Windfarm

2nd December 2021

On the 3rd of May 2023, 3M and 3K Geography classes went on a trip to the Mountlucas Windfarm to learn about wind turbines and how they work.

While they were in Mountlucas, they got to see many wind turbines and learn about what they are made of and how they work. They learned that they are made out of balsa wood and fiberglass. They also got to watch several videos on how the turbines are built and what the inside looks like. Students also had the opportunity to see the journey from the base of the turbine to the very tip of the wind turbine whilst wearing VR headsets.

Overall it was an educational day for 3M and 3K Geography students and they all learned a lot about wind farms and their importance in Ireland.

The Manager of the Mount Lucas facility, Ms. Catherine Swaine, was extremely knowledgeable and really made the visit very educational and enjoyable.
