Welcome back to all students, and congrats to our Leaving Certs!
3rd September 2021
So today brought week one to a close, and a busy week it was, too!!
All students are now back, as we welcomed our 2nd, 5th, TY and 4th Year students back in the last few days. Training resumed for hurling and camógie teams this week, with football to resume next week, and lockers were allocated to all students- both welcome landmarks en route to re-establishing the 'old' normal.
Today was also a huge milestone for our Leaving Cert Class of 2021, who received their results today. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our students on their outstanding results- so many achieved phenomenal points, despite the disruption and uncertainty that Covid sparked. The Class of 2021 showed remarkable fortitude and resourcefulness as they set about reaching their goals, and we wish them every success on the next leg of lifes journey for them.
We hope that all of our students with reason to celebrate can do so safely and enjoyably, and that they can mark this rite of passage filled with joy, hope and excitement. We expect for the vast majority of our students that the results today will be the key to where they felt they wanted to go last February as they filled out their CAO or UCAS applications, but inevitably each year, there may be those that feel disappointed the results didn't reach their expectations. For those students, we would say keep your chin up, there are still so many possibilities open to you, even if you think Plan A won't work out. There is an old Irish saying that goes 'God never shut one door, but he opened another'- I know it happened to me: twice!! If there could be only one life lesson for me to pass on, it would be that you'll end up where you're meant to be, when you're meant to be there.
While getting 600 points plus is a remarkable accomplishment, and worthy of praise and recognition, in so many cases having to battle hard to get a H6 or an O6 can in its own way be an equally noteworthy achievement. Your Leaving Cert results are only one feature of you. Your character, your values, your kindness, your friendliness, your honesty, your humour, your happiness, your work ethic, your empathy, your ambition, your optimism, the impression you have made on those who have met you, and the impact you will have on those you've yet to meet is ultimately the real currency that will mark your success in life.
We are immensely proud of our Class of 2021. We wish you every joy, every success, every happiness today, and for the rest of your lives. We have treasured memories of your time with us, and we hope you'll always carry the same of us. We ask you to look after one another, and always be ready to extend a helping hand to one another.
Go n-eirí an bóthar libh.
Good luck, thank you, and God bless.
