An important notice for parents of 2nd and 3rd year students regarding the dates for CBAs throughout the rest of the year.
2nd Year - Important Notice - Key Dates for CBAs
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
As your son/ daughter begins second year it is important that we bring to your attention some key assessment dates for the year.
As part of the national Junior Cycle reform students in second year will be required to complete Classroom Based Assessments in some of their subjects. Classroom Based Assessments (CBAs) provide students with opportunities to demonstrate their learning and skills in ways not possible in a pen and paper examination, for example, their verbal communication and investigation skills. These assessments take place in class time and are assessed and graded by the subject teacher.
The grading system for CBAs is as follows:
• Exceptional
• Above Expectations
• In Line with Expectations
• Yet to Meet Expectations
The dates below are set out by the school for CBAs for the various subjects. Therefore, attendance at school is vital during these dates. If your son/ daughter are involved in extra-curricular activities, it is their responsibility to catch up with any work missed.

3rd Year - Important Notice – Key Dates for CBAs
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
As your son/ daughter begins third year it is important that we bring to your attention to some key assessment dates and changes for the year.
Students experienced a disrupted period of learning in 2019/20 because of school closures introduced to curtail the COVID-19 pandemic. The following assessment arrangements for CBAs will now apply:
The requirement related to CBA completion for this cohort of students (third years) has been changed. In the exceptional circumstances arising from school closures, each student must complete only one CBA in each subject rather than the usual two in each subject. This cohort of students will not be required to complete any Assessment Tasks.
The school management and its teachers, in discussion where feasible with students, will choose which CBA to complete for each subject. However, there will be some exceptions to this choice: - to ensure assessment of oral communications skills, students must complete CBA 2: Communicative Task in Irish and CBA 1: Oral Communication in Modern Foreign Languages - as they are linked in each case with the final examination in the subject. Also students who are studying Visual Art, Home Economics, and Music must complete CBA 2.
