Happy New Year!!
31st December 2020
So the curtains come down on a uniquely singular year.
None of us could have envisaged this night 12 months ago what would transpire in 2020. Yet it has been and gone, and we get to start again anew in a few hours.
Despite all the obstacles and challenges 2020 posed, we are proud of our students' achievements, resilience, versatility and adaptability throughout the year, not least our Leaving Cert Class of 2020. We were so proud and excited at our Girls' Soccer All Ireland successes. It goes without saying the landscape changed dramatically in March, and we came back in September to a very different school environment, with a raft of new procedures and etiquette to adapt to.
In unprecedented times and circumstances, we are so proud of how the entire school community has dealt with all these challenges. The atmosphere of our school, though slightly muted, is as strong as ever. It might be steered by management and staff, but it is always, always fueled and driven by our students. It's still friendly, it's still warm and supportive, there's still room for humour and craic, and this is a testament to our students.
There are many activities on hold, but there is still so much going on- the recent TY Trade Fair an outstanding example. Our Leaving Certs and Junior Cycle exam classes are forging ahead. They have their goals to reach, and they have shown consistently that they will reach them, whatever comes or goes. We are immensely proud of our 1st Year students. They have adapted to secondary school life like second nature- we look forward to the days when they can fully appreciate the school experience without masks or restrictions, and we look forward to seeing them build their contribution to the 203 year legacy of Presentation education in Killina.
There are so many to thank, so many to acknowledge, so many that keep all the wheels turning to keep the school functioning. To all who participate and contribute to our school, thank you, and we wish you all the very best in 2021.
We especially think tonight of the Presentation Sisters- especially Sr Oliver, Sr Mary, and Sr Aine, but also all those before them. We think of all those who have worked in Killina since the initial days. Something was sown, something was tended, something grew, and something was maintained and passed from generation to generation. We think of all those who left their mark, and passed on the legacy.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire school community for their support throughout 2020, especially all parents and students. We wish you all a happy, safe, healthy, holy and hopeful new year.
